About the project

The product strategy and product management department at MAN is responsible for product and portfolio management across all series products (Truck & Bus). This essentially includes the definition, development and management of the entire MAN Truck & Bus product portfolio – from the initial product idea through development and market launch to outphasing.

TESEON provides support in several areas, from the decision on product strategy to the definition and management of product development projects for new products and product maintenance measures. In the “Product project initiation” task area, TESEON supports the operational content initiation of extensive vehicle projects and theme packages. In the “requirements management” area, TESEON is involved in the management of requirements specification work, including the support of SE teams. The optimization of processes and methods is the subject of the “Product positioning” field. Supporting operational activities here primarily concern technical evaluations, data management, market surveys and the coordination and implementation of workshops. The management of the existing product portfolio also proves to be a challenging task at MAN due to interdependencies and intertwined data structures. In the field of “variant management and portfolio complexity”, TESEON contributes its many years of expertise in complexity management to provide operational support for ongoing activities through evaluations, data analyses, workshops and creative work. This enables the best possible adaptation of the truck and bus product portfolio to market and customer requirements within a legal and socially accepted environment and on the basis of entrepreneurial profitability. Data structures and tools for variant management are introduced, maintained and further developed.

Successes of the project

  • Reduction of project initiation times
  • Development and detailing of standards in requirements management
  • Savings through variance reduction in the range of several million EUR per year
  • Substantial reduction of variance in the active vehicle control and parts portfolio
