Against the background of strong corporate growth, purchasing is being adapted to the challenges of the future. The comprehensive change affects the strategic orientation, the implementation of efficient industrial processes and the establishment of a powerful purchasing organization. The full transformation will be completed in 2020.

About the company

WHW Hillebrand has been the leading cathodic corrosion protection coating company for more than 80 years. WHW develops special chemical and procedural surface solutions in accordance with customers’ requirements. In efficient and state-of-the-art coating systems, both simple mass products and geometrically highly complex components are refined.

About the Project

Based on leading technology, it is crucial for the success of the company to develop new processes in the shortest possible time and to technically reproduce them immediately in suitable plants. This speed should be taken into account by purchasing in the face of commercial challenges. The project manages the complex balancing act of time and money – with uncompromising quality standards. After a 360° Quick Scan, the key areas of action were added and sustainable solutions developed in joint cross-functional workshops. The identified potential savings were fully realized. With a ROI well under 6 months, purchasing represents a highly efficient organization.

Success of the project

As part of the project, the processes were redesigned and defined with clear tasks, competencies, powers and responsibilities. The new effective processes are now fully operational in the optimized organization, for example, purchasing and operations engineering work together closely in a “technical office”. Strategies were developed and agreed in the product groups. After being approved by the management, these are now consistently implemented.
